Season 5 Prize Scale

In Season 5 we've seen some spectacular wins in the bonus round. But have you wondered how the prize scale is structured? Here's the basics.

* In Season 5, there are five levels of prizes, each requiring the contestant to pick one key out of 9 on a board that is designated the "hot key". To increase the chances of finding the right key, the player answered a series of trivia questions about each star in 30 seconds. Each correct answer knocked one key that wouldn't work off the board

* All contestants start at Level 1 and end at Level 5. This was based on 5 consecutive days as champion and equal days of success.

Level 1: Car (Value varies depending on make of vehicle)
Championship Day 1: start with 9 keys (odds determined by number of stars captured)
If car starts: player advanced to Level 2 next show
If car does not start: player must try to retain championship, thus odds increase (see below)
Day 2: 1 key removed + total captures
Day 3: 2 keys removed + total captures
Day 4: 3 keys removed + total captures
Day 5: 4 keys removed + total captures
19 contestants cleared this level

Level 2: Safe containing $25,000
Day 1: re-start with 9 keys (odds determined by total captures)
If safe opens: player advanced to Level 3 next show
If safe does not open: player must try to retain championship (see Level 1, Days 2-4 for description)
5 contestants cleared this level

Level 3: Trunk containing a trip around the world
Day 1: re-start with 9 keys (odds determined by total captures)
If trunk opens: player advanced to Level 4 next show
If trunk does not open: player must try to retain championship (see Level 1, Days 2-3 for description)
3 contestants cleared this level

Level 4: Safe containing $50,000
Day 1: re-start with 9 keys (odds determined by total captures)
If safe opens: player advanced to Level 5 next show
If safe does not open: player must try to retain championship (see Level 1, Day 2 for description)
2 contestants attempted this level

Level 5: Unknown
Why? Nobody made it that far!

The Season 6 prize scale was a little different. Level 1 featured a trip to an exotic locale, Level 2 had a safe with $10,000, Level 3 featured a car, while Level 4 was another safe prize, this time with $25,000. If a contestant failed to start the car or open the safe/trunk, he/she would be awarded $500 (later $1,000) for every square captured as a consolation prize
